Well I was swearing that it really didn't bother me today, but something
did. I'm sitting here crying like a baby and not sure what to do. Kandice
knows the situation and was so kind to me earlier. I know it gets better,
but I could have lost a dear friend over it and I'm just sick now.

I think I'm going to put the torch up for a while...maybe even sell it after
today. :-(

Cry all you need to. It's good for you. It releases a buildup of
prostaglandins in the body -- if you've been enduring any stress lately, I'm
sure you need to do this. Your body needs it.

Starlia, if the person was really a dear friend, they will forgive you (if you
actually need forgiveness). Hang in there -- it could turn out just fine!

If it will help you to talk, I can listen. Email me too if you need an ear.
It's okay, sweetie.

I don't think you need to sell your torch. Remember, there's always someone
who just wants to stir things up (regardless of what they claim their

Thank you Sooz and Kathy...and everyone else. I wish I could just crawl in
the bubble bath, but I feel so bad today that I don't think I can make it in

Thanks for all your support. I guess I need a good cry and then go cuddle

Oh Hon, it's amazing how all those things that don't bother us mutch during
the day grow and become overwhelming during those dark, small hours where
there's nothing to do but think and obsess. (Nope, never been there, not me,
no siree)

If your friend is a true friend, (s)he would be heartbroken at your simply
throwing your incredible talent away. You have an obvious gift, and just
refusing to satisfy your inner muse isn't going to make you happy, and by
extension, can't help your friendship in the least. I don't know your
situation, but I do know that a heartfelt talk over a cup of tea (fattening
extras optional) can work wonders to repair a friendship that needs a few
band-aids.

Or use the torch to help you work through your feelings. Don't think about
making anything saleable right now, just use the torch and the glass to make
something that represents your feelings. About yourself, your friendship,
your feelings. Personally, I'd make a piece that represented all the things
I don't like about myself, which ultimately turns out to be the root of all
my disagreements with other people. I'd put everything I had into it: all
the hurts, the words that were said, and the words that shouldn't have been
said; make it representative of everything that's brought you to this point.

After it's come out of the kiln, look at it. You'll have two ways to go from
there - treasure it, because it holds all the hurts and pain in a way that
cannot hurt you again, or smash it into a million pieces to symbolize the
power that you have over those inner demons who try to hurt us.

I hope this makes sense. If it would help, you can email me privately, and
I'd be happy to provide an empathetic ear or two. You needn't worry that I'd
tell anyone, because that's not what I do.

I love you, and hate to see you in such pain. If there is anything I can do
to help, remember - two shoulders to cry on, no waiting.

Kathy N-V

P.S.: If this is a little jumbled it's because Bob just woke me from a sound
sleep. My breathing apparatus snapped in half, and I was gasping for air.
So, I get to play McGiver girl and repair it with duct tape until a new
headpiece can be ordered. God forbid the insurance company let me have a
spare - that might make sense. So I get to sleep with my CPAP interface jury
rigged together with popsicle sticks and duct tape for a couple of weeks (if
I let them buy it), or a couple of days (if I buy it myself and get
reimbursed).

What she said dammit!!!
I'm not sure what's going on, but it sounds like one
of those "your copying me!" things, or a derivative
thereof.
Remember, there is very little new under the sun
and moon. Years ago, when I was painting, someone
I know started doing watercolor florals with black
backgrounds. I happened to do a painting on an
over-sized fuschia blossom on a black background.
Why black? Because I had taken a picture of the
flower and the background on the picture was black!
I was copying a photograph I had taken. It almost
ruined a friendship. someone else pointed out that
millions of paintings of flowers have been done over
the years that have black backgrounds.
Artists tend to be a temperamental lot. You just keep
on doing what you do. Stay true to yourself, the rest
will work itself out in time.

Choosing to not-speak to someone over that WC thread is the height of
childishness, IMO. I went, I read it, and I don't see what the big huge deal

Am I getting that someone tore you up about your art ? Please read all
of this ... at no time during my creative life have I been "usual". In
fact I often veer off the road ON PURPOSE, just to stir people up. It's
the nature of creativity. To want people to look, be spurred on to some
opinon that they might not have had before. "Cause ifyou did otherwise,
what fin is that ? Ifwe all did the sme stuff the same way, that's
creative mastrbation ! ( Whoops, bad word alert ! ) ... art is freedom
to choose and explore, your way. And all the critics are just voices.
They are not your creative heart and soul. Screw 'em ( whoops. bad word
alert again !) ... !!!!!
Lemme talk a little bit about my clown / performng character. I am flat
out, in your face different, and it is with intent that I poke others in
the eye, so to speak, because I want to be different and I want to make
a statement about performing. I never win awards at the competitions. I
cross too many lines and they have to shave off my edges to fit me in to
a convenient pigeonhole, and since I am claustrophobic and don't like
pigeonholes, I find myself standing alone, often on the fringes. I am
too cutting edge, too controversial. And I love it here ! I make them
look and I challege them to be different and 'cause them to explore
places they rarley go. I am top of the line on techniques, but my
vibrant little light, shines a different way. How could I respect myself
otherwise ! How could they ? I have been the horse of a different color
for so long, it doesn't occur to me to be otherwise ! Even if
begrudgingly, I get fingers pointed at me and ocassionally, someone will
seek me out and tell me they like me, but never in front of others. They
are afraid not to conform or appreciate what I am trying to do. Some
others consider themselves the grand high all ruling know it alls. and
if it suits 'em to be so, well, who am I to stop them from running off
at the mouth. Just let 'em squawk ! Some time back, the most high
reighning member of our performing community told me he liked me. Then a
couple of other higher ups did. The people who most matter realize what
I am. The rank and file is really busy trying to slither up the ladder
and to suck up ( whoops, bad word alert ) to people who compliment them,
that they really miss out. DO NOT get cought in a trap where someone has
criticized you unfairly and you let it get to you. Try to really
understand why ! SO tomorrow,
regional convention starts here in Vegas. I'll still compete, although
I won't win anything ... but I do get to stand up and proudly express
myself .... Oh yeah, I forgot the most important things, being true
to your artistic self is the goal, as is, knowing all that really
matters in the end is that audience or those patrons.

OK... I have no idea what is going on. Here is what YOU need to do!
Turn on that torch and put what you are feeling into the bead. No matter
what the feeling is! If it's anger make anger... if it's depression make depression...
no matter what it is... make it and then go outside and throw the damn thing
as far as you can and NEVER go looking for it! It does not have to be big or
kiln annealed! Just get it out of you and into something else and chuck it!
If the bead turns out pretty you didn't make the right bead... keep that one! :)
Do it until the feeling is gone... I believe in you and so does everyone else here!
To coin a phrase: JUST DO IT!

Starlia, I always make it a point to avoid *those* threads. It always
ends up the same way, and someone gets hurt. I hate that it was you
this time.

That whole issue is something that came up ALL the time in the other

are usually those who are the most insecure about their own talents
and abilities. Those folks would benefit from spending more time at
the torch and less time picking other people apart.

I know you're hurting. I hate that. If you were closer, I say come

Bravo Tink!

Starlia, I'm just echoing what's already been said...It happens over and
over, and usually it's someone else's insecurity doing the talking. Keep

Say it isn't true, Starlia! Please don't make any rash decisions
while your emotions are so high. Taking a break to get some
perspective is a good thing as is talking issues over with your
friends especially your dear friend if possible. Why do I get the
feeling that your friend would not want you to hang up your torch?

i actually had a bead store owner tell me last night that the Fireline
they get "made for beading" is different than the Fireline from the
fishing departments. AND that the "fishing fireline" is
biodegradable.

i've never heard or experienced anything remotely like that, but this
lady does seem to generally know her stuff, so i thought i would bring
it here for discussion.

the Bass Pro store says:
Berkley® FireLine® Fishing Line
No other line delivers this combination of easy handling, castability,
super strength and sensitivity. Stronger than mono, yet it casts
farther and handles just as well-even better in some situations.
Fireline ties easier, makes smoother casts and stays hassle free in
any weather. Durable, too, as it won't deteriorate over a lifetime,
because ultra-light rays, sunlight, even the cold won't effect it.

That's pretty simple. Fishing lines get broken. They get
tangled on things underwater and have to be cut. The list
is endless. Fishing line gets left in the wild, animals get
tangled in it, etc. If it biodegrades, the problem solves itself.

there is a large demand for all fishing line to be biodegradable - because when
fishmern get snagged - they either break or cut their line.
The results -- when it gets tangled up with wildlife -- are NOT PRETTY.

Fishing fireline is not biodegradable, and that the package insert tells you

I'm not entirely sure of the brands. I have PowerPro and SpiderLine. Both
of those, and I would guess FireLine also, make line for fishing -- a much
bigger market that crafting. PowerPro and Spiderline, and I would expect
also Fireline, make monofilament fishing line that biodegrades. However,
they also make fused line and braided line which are not.

The point is, you can't just ask about a brand name, you have to identify
the product as well, in order to be informed properly.

They do make a fire line monofilament and it is biodegradable.

that the Fireline
they get "made for beading" is different than the Fireline from the
fishing departments
I think they may have been misinformed Vicki. It is all the same product, just
packaged differently.

I don't know you personally, or what happened to you, but nothing is
worth the loss of your art. For me, when everything else is gone, it's
all I have that is truly mine and the only place I can go to heal when I
hurt, where no one has to understand anything. It's just me and y tools.
Ya'll all know I have had a horrible year. And as part of that, I had a
friendship with someone that was a new friendship and growing. I really
thought this was goingto be a cintinug thing. But. the other person
became too controlling, and I tried hard to make them understand who I
am, what I need and how I will be treated ... with respect, that is. And
there was no understanding, so I called it off. Curiously, I had said I
didn't care, but I am a liar. I had a really large sense of loss and I
did not like this at all. Part of our problem stems from creative
differences, and part of it is misunderstanding what each other is and
wants. I was alot more giving than she was, and alot kinder, but I will
not give up a large chunk of myself that I love and I will not be pushed
to do something I know I don't want to. When you compromise with
someone, you do have to give and take, but you don't have to give up
everything. I am holding on tighter and tighter to what I want for me
and what makes me feel good about me. In that respect, I am the most
important thing to me. I come first.

Well I was swearing that it really didn't bother me today, but something
did. I'm sitting here crying like a baby and not sure what to do.

knows the situation and was so kind to me earlier. I know it gets better,
but I could have lost a dear friend over it and I'm just sick now.
I think I'm going to put the torch up for a while...maybe even sell it after
today. :-(
Wow, whatever happened sounds painful - how sad.
Keep in mind though - your art may be what gets you through this.
Hope you feel better soon...

Best,
Deborah

Sometimes not so good stuff happens between friends and it seems like a
disaster. It may take time, but there is a chance you could retrieve the
situation. It's happened to me and yesterday I received a letter from that
friend which I did not hope to have ever recieved. Push on sweetie and I
hope what ever happened will be resolved.
