Where are all of you, speak up!!!!!!
I'm here, not posting much but reading almost daily - not
that I'm really from that much the past, I only got into beading
about 6 or so years ago.

A lot of the lampworkers can be found at Lampwork Etc. (web board),
at least occasionally - I bought myself a torch last year and a kiln
earlier this year, so I have a lot of questions, and it's a good place
to hang out too.

I made my very first strand of bead crochet last night. This is going
to be a 3 strand necklace (one for each of those odd shaped lampwork
beads I made in my first class - at least they're all the same color)
and I'll post it when it's done.

Aloha,
Maren

But then, umm.

After Shirley posted the roll call quite a few people came out of the
proverbial woodwork and checked in. I send a PM to Kalera at Lampwork
Etc. and she replied that she had forgotten how to get on Usenet.
I think part of the problem is that a lot of ISPs drop their newsfeeds
and a lot of former usenet users are uncomfortable with using
Google. I've been using Google for years because the University
of Hawaii news server was becoming unreliable long before they
stopped maintaining it altogether. I noticed years ago that I never
saw some people's posts (Kalera being one of them), and as I didn't
like it very much (to put it mildly) I switched to Google.

There are other news servers out there, my DH subscribes to
one (usenet.com?) for something like $5/month (don't know why
he's not using Google, but that's up to him), but I think the lack
of usenet servers is part of the problem.

I'd love to be more active again myself, but I'm not usually one
to post new threads unless I have burning questions. I'm slow taking
pictures and even slower posting them, so I don't have a lot of
new stuff to show off most of the time.

I'll try to get the mgambo seed and amethyst necklace and bracelet
set picture somewhere where it will stay for a while and then post
here where you can find it.

Hi Ladies.....

I have used a free news server for over 2 years ever since my ISP
dropped Usenet. And I can highly recommend this one. It used to be
Motzarella.org, but due to a copyright problem (not Italian, grin) they
just changed to "eternal-september".

http://www.eternal-september.org/

Give it a try.....it does take some setting up, but they are really
helpful. And yes, it has a support group once you get on there. Or you
can find it via Google. I have put several people onto this news server
and everyone is quite happy with it.

I find Google to be a bit of a pain, but do use it for the archives. Or
to check and make sure I am getting all of the ng feed. I confess that
I am not a big Facebook or blog fan....old habits die hard. (old people
don't like change either......lol).

Good luck.....Heather in Canada.

LOL.....I hear you!! My computer guy (Willy the Wonder Tech) who built this
machine, totally reformatted it yesterday and I am trying to keep from
tearing out my hair as I start from Square One to reinstall stuff.

Mind you, I do have a wondrous gadget called "Clickfree" which is an
automatic backup, so will now put it to use to see if it really did all it
was supposed to do. It even backs up Outlook Express emails apparently.

I did get my news server set up once again, but luckily I save most of my
subscriptions, passwords and so on in a folder on Yahoo so it was available.
Hope Clickfree reinstalls my OE password folder.

Cheers......think I will go have a stiff drink!! (G)

yes, it does, and it's becoming more and more wide-spread.

I have used it for over 2 years (used to be Motzarella) and can highly
recommend it. It does have days where it gets overloaded, but its free
and Ray (the owner) is really excellent to deal with and answer
questions.

Hope you are feeling better, my dear. These are "golden years"?? (G)

I stopped coming here because there were more trolls and spammers than

to the actual posts. I really like LE though; they've been great and
the spamming stuff doesn't happen there that I've seen.

A 3 strand crochet necklace? Sounds cool. I'd really like to see
that. You know, I've made bead crochet bags, but for some reason I've
never done a necklace. Hopefully this will inspire me.
